I have been a Primary Teacher for the past 30 plus years, working with children from Prep to Year 7 as a classroom teacher, music & drama teacher, teacher-librarian, drug and sexuality/ puberty teacher. Now in my 50’s and retired, I have time to give something back in a voluntary capacity.
Besides teaching, I have raised two amazing children now 26 and 23. For 20 years my passion was as a volunteer firefighter with the CFA driving the big, red trucks! Presently I run a 4wd and camping club with 150 members, so I get to explore this wonderful country often. About 8 years ago my world turned upside down when I was diagnosed with a very rare disease, (with only 200 others in Australia) called Neuro Myelitis Optica-(NMO.) But NMO does not stop me. I never say I can’t, or why me but rather why not me? Fortunately my medication keeps me relatively stable now and in remission. I am a mentor for those newly diagnosed and oversee a support group for other NMO sufferers. I also host a biennial Australia-wide NMO conference. For the last 4 years during the winter months, I’ve traveled around Australia, towing my off-road caravan, fundraising for a cure. By chance I ended up on a cattle station in the Gulf Country, volunteering with all sorts of jobs for 6 weeks. Although unplanned, it was the highlight of my trip and I absolutely LOVED the experience the remoteness and the people.
Having fun whilst learning has always been my trademark with students and you will find me consistent, enthusiastic and caring. My personality is a mixture of bubbly and introspective, so alone time as well as being with others is important to me. I enjoy my life, live it fully and believe I still have something to offer a family, hopefully in the capacity of a tutor or angel.
Volunteering is just one way I can give back to those in rural areas that need a bit of a hand while seeing a bit of the country.
My partner Paul, (57) who will be travelling with me, has 10 years experience in Education in Information, Communication Technology (ICT) Support from Prep -Year 12 so he would be willing to assist in internet training & graphic design. He is an accomplished photographer & musician.Paul is an all rounder, practical and willing to assist in other capacities around the station.Together we bring many skills, life experiences and above all enthusiasm.
- PLEASE NOTE I AM APPLYING FOR BOTH A TUTOR OR ANGEL POSITION. WE ALSO TRAVEL WITH OUR DOG, A CROSS HEELER/KELPIE WHO IS FINE BOTH ON & OFF LEASH.
