We are looking for a retired teaching couple (teaching position for one or both) to help out for approx 6-8 weeks in Term 2 and Term 3. Jobs for partner available if interested.

We will have a new baby, be running the Roadhouse that attracts a high volume of tourist traffic at this time of year (including tourist buses and car rally groups), as well as running the cattle station (this will be mustering time).

Own accommodation required. Everything else included (water, power, meals etc.) We have Telstra 4G Service! Plenty of social opportunity with a number of staff working here and travelers coming through. Weekends free for you to explore the area – camping, fishing, swimming, rock climbing, photography, bird watching etc.

Plenty of assistance and guidance available for navigating the School of the Air system and technology.
Successful couple may want to help out in both Terms, or we are happy to offer the available times to different couples.

Backpacker staff, Grandparents, Mechanic, Station Staff

It’s a very busy lifestyle running a cattle station and Roadhouse combined but it’s also very fun! We employ around 10 staff, as well as having multiple family members on deck throughout the year. We have plenty of other people from surrounding stations call in, as well as tourists and fisherman. We live right on the highway, even though it is remote it is very social. When we are mustering we have chopper pilots, stationhands staying with us. We also have an air strip (our mail flies in once a week). We are 1 hour from the nearest town that has fresh food delivered every week. The road is all sealed to get to us (except for the last 12km). We attend school events when possible at the nearest locations, and have other children on School of the Air living nearby that we have over to visit for social/play time. We run cattle on the property and like to get outdoors and explore whenever we are not in school. There is lots of great spots for walking, rock climbing, photography, bird watching etc. It is a beautiful part of the country!

Laundry available (Washing machine only, no dryer)

Mail plane every week

All meals available. We all eat together in the Roadhouse/Station kitchen for meals. Everyone helps themselves for Breakfast and Lunch. Dinner is cooked and served to all family staff every night of the week including weekends.

Bitumen road all the way to the front door (except for one last unsealed patch of 12km between Doomadgee and Hell’s Gate)

We live on the highway!

Doomadgee 80km, Burketown 180km

Cool casual clothing- it’s a warm place all year round. Some light jumpers/jeans/pants for the winter months as it can be a bit fresh in the mornings.
